In Italy, youth football is organised by the FIGC Youth and School Sector and, for amateurs, by the National Amateur League (LND). Age groups depend on birth year and change every season.
Grassroots (up to about age 12)
- Piccoli Amici: the youngest, play and movement.
- Primi Calci: first small-sided matches.
- Pulcini: small-sided games focused on fun and technique.
- Esordienti: the last age groups before competitive football.
Competitive youth football
- Under 14 and Under 15 (Giovanissimi).
- Under 16 and Under 17 (Allievi).
- Under 18 and Under 19: Juniores in amateur clubs, Primavera in professional clubs.
After youth football
Amateur football runs from Terza Categoria up to Eccellenza, then Serie D. From Serie C upwards it's professional football. Futsal and women's football have their own categories.
